Seniorzrock photography is gearing up for a great fall senior portrait season. We’ve booked more senior sessions this fall than we had in all of 2009. Today I got a great compliment through an email inquiry. The mother of a graduating senior said, “We’ve been looking everywhere for a ‘NOT SO ORDINARY’ photographer . . .”
There is still time for you to get your senior portraits. We’ll get the ball rolling on some “rockin” senior portraits! Send us an email at info(at)seniorzrock dot com.
Below are a few pics from Camie’s senior portrait storybook that went to print this week . . .

You gotta be old to remember the saying “a penny for your thoughts”. It would probably be more like “a dollar for your thoughts” in today’s economy. I know I’m revealing something of my age with that quote, but I try to “think young” (six children under age 12 will do that for you).
I posted this picture of a recent senior portrait session for several reasons. One, because I like it. Two, because my 11 year old son (and photography assistant) doesn’t like it. Three, because when I first started working in a photography studio (over 20 years ago) my mentor’s rule was, “Never cut through flesh.” Oh, how times have changed. Four, to see what opinions I can generate from it. So now it’s your turn. Tell me what you think about the composition of this photo . . .

This week’s photography assignment was to take two pictures of the same subject: 1. A bird’s eye view and 2. A bug’s eye view. The point of this assignment is to get the photographer to explore different perspectives to make their photographs more interesting. This week I’ve included my 11 yr. old son’s pictures along with mine. He has been assisting me on photo shoots since he was 9, but he’s taking the class with his peers. I thought it was interesting that Daniel (accidentally) included a little bird poo in his bird’s eye view photo! Enjoy . . .

I’m late getting this past week’s photo assignment posted because the files were on Amy’s computer and I just transferred them today. The assignment I gave my students this week was “fill the frame.” Another way to say it would be “get in close.” What I’m trying to get them to see is that too many times we just center our subject and they are often so tiny that they get lost in the frame. As always, I go out and do the assignment myself each week. The first shot (Sundrop Logo) was what came to my mind as I gave the assignment. After I took that shot (and others) I realized it’s harder to completely fill the frame than I had first thought. I continued to a local graveyard and was successful in getting my subject to fill the frame.

For this coming week I gave my student two assignments. The could choose which one they wanted to do, but for each of the two assignments they have to submit two pictures. For any who want to “play along” the assignments were 1. Take two shots of the same subject illustrating blurred action and stopped action. 2. Take two shots of the same subject illustrating a “bird’s eye” view and a “bugs eye” view. Let me know if you “play along.”

I’m trying to get better at blogging and keeping up-to-date on my Facebook fan pages. I just uploaded a few pictures to the Seniorzrock fan page from T. Brack’s senior portrait session. I’m still booking sessions for the class of 2010 and recruiting models for our Seniorzrock spokesmodel program. Details are on the Seniorzrock website. See more of T’s photos on the Facebook fan page.

This past week I taught my students about “leading lines” in photographic composition. There assignment this week was to photograph leading lines of any type. My promise to my students is that I will not go back through my files and pick out a photo that fits the assignment. I went out yesterday with a couple of our children and in just a few minutes captured my shots. For me, this was my favorite assignment so far. Next week’s assignment – “fill the frame”.

This week’s photography class assignment was to take a portrait and practice the rule of thirds. The rule of thirds divides the frame into three rows and threecolumns. It’s a visual way to help people think about moving their point of interest from the center of the frame. Thats a very basic explanation. If you want to know more about the rule of thirds – just google it!
This past week I borrowed my friends $100 point and shoot camera to take my picture this week. I had planned to do all my pictures with my point and shoot camera, but Mariah (our three year old) dropped mine and it doesn’t work anymore! Yes, I used photoshop . . .
